About Us
Singapore Bakery and Confectionery Trade Association
was first established on 1 April 1947 by a group of bakers in Singapore.
Its aim was to promote and expand the development of bakery trade in
Singapore then.
The
association was registered with the Registrar of Trade Union as
Singapore Bakery Trade Union when it was first established. On 6 July
1968, it was renamed as Singapore Bakery and Confectionery Trade
Association. The inclusion of confectionery trade helped grow our
member size to new height.

Our
first
premise was at Middle Road. On 1 April 1950, we were relocated to No.71
Bencoolen Street. And before long, on 14 February 1954, it was
relocated again to No.78 Waterloo Street. The Association was
operating in leased premises then. Rapid increase in rent coupled with
the hassle of frequent relocations, the need to own a premise to
facilitate the Association's activities arose.
In 1979, the Association
organized a fund raising activity to gather fund for its premise. With
members' donations and help from Chinese Wheat Flour Merchants of
Singapore, the Association bought over the double-storey shop house
located at 50 Geylang Lorong 24A Singapore, where it currently operates.
Many
traditional trades were lagged behind as a result of globalization and
technology advancement. Like other industries in Singapore, the bakery
and confectionery industry needs to adapt to the evolving environment,
consumer buying habits and technology advancement. Our industry has
progressed with time and the Association has brought this trade in line
with modern time. Over the years, our industry has developed a strong
shop front retailing and internet retailing emphasis as well as
upholding a good reputation for delicious and hygienic products and
quality services.
